60 soldiers killed in three days in Myanmar
Armed resistance groups have stepped up their fight against Myanmar's military. The People's Defense Force (PDF) has claimed over 60 soldiers killed in the last three days. The junta forces continued to counter-attack to repel them.
Recently, the junta began a large-scale military operation to suppress armed rebels in several states of Myanmar, including Rakhine, bordering Bangladesh. In addition to the armed rebels, many civilians are losing their lives in these operations. Many have left their homes and taken refuge in different places to save their lives. However, the Myanmar-based media Irrawaddy says that for the past few days, the Junta forces have faced intense resistance from various armed groups, including the PDF.
According to reports, anti-junta groups have attacked government forces' bases in Myanmar's Sagaing, Mandal, Tanintharyi regions, Rakhine and Mon states. More than 60 members of the security forces were killed. Among them, 15 soldiers were killed in a PDF attack in Mayang township. Several military vehicles of the government forces were destroyed in the attack. Arms and ammunition have been seized.
In February this year, the Myanmar army seized power after overthrowing Aung San Suu Kyi. Since then extreme instability started in the country. When protests started against the military government, the junta chief took strict measures to suppress them. More than 2,000 civilians were killed by the military in the ongoing movement. Thousands of people including politicians, journalists, teachers and students were arrested. An armed rebellion began.
